We’ve had a lovely message from one of our customers recently (you may have seen it already on facebook), showing us how she has used our crate and memory box to create a lasting memory to her young son who sadly died in 2008. Theo had very complex special needs and severe autism and he loved the specialised music therapy sessions he went to through his local authority music service .
As a beautiful memorial and as a thank you gift to those who helped Theo, his family have donated a Plantabox crate full of musical instruments to the Music Therapy team at the County Music Service, and named it Theo’s Music Box. The box contained a variety of instruments offering a range of sounds and sensory experiences. A similar gift was also given to the local Heart of England Mencap office in Clifford Chambers for use at the new Mencap Pathway facility at Atherstone-on-Stour. For this the family chose a personalised Plantabox memory box with a beautiful picture on Theo on the lid.
Theo had his own favourite music and loved the experience of sounds from a range of sources. It all helped him to communicate and overcome the limitations of no speech. It is hoped that the musical instruments will provide young people and adults who have similar needs with an alternative method of communication, or will help those for whom music offers a therapeutic benefit. We are moved that Anna, Theo’s Mum has shared her photos with us. Theo’s story can be found on his website: www.theo-monk.co.uk
